Things to do and see at Gray Hideaway
Spend your days relaxing in our peaceful gardens or join in on one of the many activities we offer, both at Gray Hideaway and nearby. We’re a family-friendly lodge, and kids love it here — don’t be surprised if they’re asking when they can come back before you’ve even left!
Fishing
The River Nile is excellent fishing for Tilapia, Yellowfish and Nile Perch. Rent some fishing tackle for a small fee and try your luck down at the rapids.
Go bird watching
Why not spend a day watching the birds and wildlife around the lodge and the islands? See if you can spot the white head of the Fish Eagle. Sightings of Red-tailed and Vervet Monkeys, otters and Monitor Lizards are common.
Explore the local area by mountain bike
Hire one of our well-maintained mountain bikes and take a ride through the village and the forest. Admire a variety of tree species. Set off on your own or hire a local guide who can point out the local crops and give you an insight into village life.
Explore the local villages on a guided village walk
Witness the villagers’ traditional and simple lifestyle, which has changed very little over the past century. Spot the fish traps, watch fishermen at the rapids and see how the local people work the fields.

The Gray Hideaway Eco River Lodge is home to Jinja’s best-equipped children’s play area. The sandpit, and swings are just some of our excellent recreational facilities for children. Our price list of adventure activities in Jinja includes rates for children.
